What type of compensation and benefits does the city of Citrus Heights provide employees?
Compensation for city employees is based upon a philosophy of recruiting a small, highly qualified staff, providing competitive compensation, and expecting a high level of work performance. It was the intent of the City Council to create a Compensation Policy which will support and recognize innovation and exceptional performance. It is the City Council's policy that compensation is based on performance, therefore, individual compensation adjustments are not automatic, step-oriented or based on cost-of-living adjustments. The city's practice is to provide a mix of base salary increase, additional incentive award (bonus) and benefits that are generally competitive with the labor market.

Typing certificates are required for some positions. When a typing certificate is required, that information is posted within the job flyer.
Generally, the City requires a certificate to be current within two years of the date of the recruitment's final filing date and include gross and net words per minute and number of errors. An original certificate is required; copies of typing certificates and typing certificates issued on-line will not be accepted. The certificate may be issued by a college, temporary employment agency, career center, or other accredited agency. A resource listing of local organizations providing typing certificates is provided. Certificates through on-line sites will not be accepted. (The City will retain the original copy of the typing certificates.)

How long is the probationary period?
New employees are on probation for up to 12 months with the exception of sworn personnel who have a probationary period of 18 months. Currently, based on extenuating circumstances, a probationary period may be extended for another three months. Executive managers and Division managers are considered at-will and not subject to a probationary period.
